Reel Seats and Razor Planes........

It has been a while since I have posted any updates, as I have been very busy for the last few weeks, both making things and being away on holiday in sunny North Wales.

While away, although I did not manage any fishing, I did manage a little bit of walking and spotted a lovely few spots that I will be back to with a rod, next year, and a few that just made good photo opportunities.

On the workshop front, while I have been waiting for more cane to arrive, we managed to get hold of some more Hornbeam wood, which is a lovely light colored hardwood, with some beautiful and very distinctive grain patterns in it. This was cut into blocks, planed down and then bored out and drilled, awaiting final sizing. They are our new batch of reel seats, and after routing, finishing and a few coats of finishing oil, they look stunning:

This is an almost finished seat, which has been routed out and had a couple of coats of finishing oil. You can see the very distinctive grain:

This is the plane i use for all the little jobs around the workshop, it is a 1960's razor plane and is wonderful at planing anything, for any reason:

The only thing the reel seats require now is the butt cap and rings, which will be manufactured soon, photos to follow.
